Young Playwrights in Residence Program

Launched in 2022, APTC’s Young Playwrights in Residence program gives passionate young writers the chance to work closely with New York City–based mentors — completely free of charge. Over the course of the year, participants develop a new play, honing their voice and craft, and see their work brought to life by professional actors in Theatre Untitled’s Reading Series, along with other performance and showcase opportunities.
To learn more and apply for APTC's Young Playwrights in Residence program, please email aptc@theatreuntitled.com with the subject line "Young Playwrights in Residence" and include a little bit about yourself and why you love playwriting!

Young Playwright Highlight
Our first-ever Young Playwright in Residence, Gavin McGinnis, presented his original play The Alamo: A New Musical on March 11, 2023, in New York City as part of Theatre Untitled’s 2023 Reading Series!
A lifelong theatre lover, Gavin has performed in countless school productions and contributed both writing and performing to shows and showcases through APTC and Forestburgh Academy programming.
He went on to win a playwriting award from the New York State Theatre Education Association and recently received early acceptance to Bard College’s playwriting program — a testament to the program’s impact in cultivating emerging voices and supporting young writers as they take their first steps into the professional theatre community.
Known for his encyclopedic knowledge of theatre — including the rare ability to distinguish Rogers & Hammerstein from Rogers & Hart — Gavin dedicates Alamo and all his future work to his theatrical hero and role model, Stephen Sondheim. Long live the arts!
